Sun hats & caps – Add some stylish sun protection to your travel wardrobe

Do you wear a hat often? Maybe at the beach? Or when you’re spending the day at the zoo? I generally only wear one when I’m going to be out in the sun all day. Particularly to encourage the kids to wear theirs. Weekends sometimes. Mostly on holiday.

Holidays are mostly spent outdoors. Even without kids. There’s tourist attractions to discover and new places to explore. And lots and lots of walking. Then you add kids into the mix and you end up with countless hours spent at the beach or in the pool.

Sun hats

From trilbys and cowboys, to floppy and bucket, there’s a shape for everyone.

• A trilby like 1 or 2 is a choice with ‘tude. I’m thinking cute playsuit or fashion-forward slightly masculine outfit.
• Big soft straw hats have me dreaming of flowery maxi dresses, all loose and lovely.
• A bucket hat is the practical, if slightly less stylish, option (10, 11, 12). Not overly gorgeous, but they stay on, give great sun protection and can be squashed into your case.

Caps

If I’m putting in some serious exploring time, then I find a sun hat annoying. The merest breath of wind and they feel like they’re about to fly off my head. So for an active day I recommend a cap. Go subtle with a plain one, channel Sporty Spice with a fitness logo, or show off your allegiance to your favourite brand.
