I adore old movies. The 1940s, 50s. Movies like Mrs Miniver, Singin’ In The Rain, The Philadelphia Story. Actors like Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Bette Davis. One of the classics of this era is Roman Holiday. And, although Audrey Hepburn only wears one outfit for the vast majority of the film, she still epitomises the effortless grace that she is famous for.
Rome is one of my absolute favourite places and I’ve been so lucky to visit there many times – with my parents, on a Contiki tour, to attend a friend’s wedding and travelling independently with the Hubster. I’ve tried many “looks” on the various visits. There were comfy trackie pants and sneakers when we were backpacking and I was determined to enjoy the locations rather than care about how I looked. And there was the trip I wore heeled knee high boots. Which, while acceptably comfortable for wearing walking all day at home, were really not a good idea on the ancient cobbles of Rome.

So I think next time I would go for something in between and take my inspiration from Miss Hepburn.
It is always a good idea to wander those cobbled streets, buy a gelato and find a spot to sit on the Spanish Steps to take it all in. Just like she did.

In my mind I would be wearing something beautifully feminine and classic, just like her.
