Everyday Style on the school holidays

October 9, 2014 by Kirralee 11 Comments

I happily admit that I love pink. It is always the bright pink dress that I am drawn to in the shop, like this one I bought in the Boden sale recently.

(By the way, did you know that Boden has the most amazing sales? This was my first purchase from their UK site and I only paid £16.50 for it! (approx $30) Much better than the £99 full price (approx $181). Bargain yes?)

But lately I seem to be going through a blue period. More muted. Quieter. Not quite so conspicuous. Which sometimes is what you want don’t you think?

I’ve also been pinning one of the kidlets down to take a photo of me, so that I can join Styling You‘s #everydaystyle challenge, which I do on Instagram, but you can also do on Facebook or Twitter. The idea is to get you thinking about what you wear and perhaps try something new or wear things in your wardrobe that haven’t had an outing in a while. I find it incredibly inspiring to follow super stylish girls like Jasmine from Pretty Chuffed.

So here’s what I was wearing on the school holidays, as well as how I might wear it if we were school holidaying somewhere far far away.

Boden Nancy dress

Home – Another one of my bargain Boden purchases, I wore this lovely light cotton frock when the kids and I went to a Singalong Frozen movie and then picnicked at Balmoral Beach.

Away – It would be ideal on a tropical beach holiday when you want to look a bit smarter during the day for a tour or shopping.

Dress – Boden (this one is still super cheap!)
Belt – Similar here
Shoes – Target, similar here

Target floral dress

Home – This is a different shape to what I normally wear, but particularly handy if you’ve had a big pancake lunch like we did. The kids and I enjoyed the last day of school holidays catching a bus into the city and wandering around the Rocks, where there was a Carnival cruise ship in port.

Away – Smart yet easy to wear for when you’re in a new city and keen to explore on foot.

Dress – Target
Shoes – Nine West, similar here

Country road navy dress 2

Home – This day I had a little reprieve. Both kids were at activities all day, so I had tradesmen through the house to give me some quotes, but spent most of the day doing not very much to be honest.

Away – Sometimes trips are less about the location and more about visiting a faraway friend. I could imagine having brunch at the Rubber Duck in Clifton Hill (Melbourne) with my sister in this outfit.

Dress – Country Road, similar here
Leggings – Seed, similar here
Boots – Diana Ferrari, similar here

Target boyfriend shirt and jeans 2Home –  Everything about this outfit is comfy and thank goodness it was, because this was when I went clothes shopping for myself with the kids in tow. Naive yes? It was not fun. But still I managed to buy the Target dress above, so it wasn’t all bad.

Away – This is what I would be wearing at a farmstay. Although I might swap the boots for gumboots just in case we find some muddy puddles to jump in.

Shirt – Target
Jeans – Target
Boots – Asos, similar here

How were your school holidays? Does a particularly colour seem to leap out at you from the clothes racks?

You would look amazing in that dress Claire! You could show off those fab legs of yours. It’s a touch on the short side for me, but I still love it.

Love your ideas for home vs away and I love all your outfits particularly the Target dress and Boden one too. So pretty. I seem to be drawn to anything in pastel green / mint at the moment. Oh and anything with a neon touch too :)

Mint is so pretty on you Wendy. I imagine aqua would be lovely too. Would you do a bright aqua? There’s a dress on sale at Country Road at the moment that I have in black and it is soooo cheap! Only in size 12 and 14 though, so prob a bit big for you http://outlet.countryroad.com.au/shop/womenswear/clothing/dresses/60163620/Quilted-Bodice-Dress.html

Oh wow that dress you recommend is gorgeous and the price wow!! Sadly I think the 12 might be a tad too big. That sale is amazing!!! Thank you for thinking of me xox

      Thanks lovely x

I kept hearing girls like Nicole from Planning With Kids and Vanessa from Style & Shenanigans talking about it, so when this sale was on I just had to give it a go. So glad that I did. Amazing value!

Checking out Boden. I love a few of their dresses. You look amazing in everything. I am on the lookout for a few new dresses. Taking myself out for breakfast this morning and hopefully bring a few dresses home with me. V x

There’s some gorgeous things out there Vicki. One place I’m keen to have a look in is Portmans. I bought a beautiful outfit from the Pitt St Mall one and there was the most helpful girl in the changerooms there who was incredibly good at suggesting clothes to try and how to accessorise, etc.

You’re most welcome Lisa. I’m sure I will be doing more Boden bargain buying in the future! Seeing your name reminds me that you did a post on linkys recently didn’t you. Will just pop over and have a read …

So excited to make this list!
