5 reasons to love Radisson Blu Resort Fiji

I’d heard that once your kids get to primary school, then this is the resort to take them to. I am so glad I listened to that advice. This resort did not disappoint!

 

 

1.  Self-contained apartment accommodation

A one-bedroom apartment was perfect for our family of four. Hubster and I took the king size bed in the separate bedroom. Sooo much nicer than all being in the same room. On the first night the kids (aged 6 and 4) shared the sofa bed which went remarkably smoothly, but after that Hamish (4) decided he’d rather have his own bed. So I made one from the sofa cushions and some sheets that I had brought with me for that purpose. He adored his cosy little bed and it was plenty big enough for him.

We didn’t do much cooking, but it was super convenient being able to freeze plenty of bread to make sandwiches or to warm up some baked beans or cook some pasta for easy meals. I do love having a kitchen.

2.  The waterslide

This truly deserves its own category. It was the number one reason that friends recommended the resort to me. It will probably be the highlight of the holiday for primary school aged kids. It certainly was for Alannah (6). Hamish (4) was a bit scared of it and only went down once on an adult’s lap, but for Alannah she would spend literally hours going up and down. It never got boring.

 

3.  All the other pools

There is a pool for everyone here and, considering we were there during NSW school holidays, there was plenty of space for everyone.

 

4.   The food

There’s a lot of options on-site and you aren’t far from the other Denarau resorts or the Marina if you fancy something different or more upmarket. I heard that Mamacita at the Wyndham is excellent and is right next door to the Radisson. For us we found plenty of variety at the buffet breakfast, often had lunch by the pool or made sandwiches in the room. And we could frequently be found at Water Court for dinner (or picking up takeaway to have in our room). BLU buffet restaurant, Neptunes for alfresco fish and chips or pizza, and room service were all excellent options. As was the Hard Rock Cafe at the Marina.

 

5.   Relaxation

My Paradise Rituals spa treatment was one of my trip highlights. Although the surrounds aren’t as luxurious as the Bebe Spa at Outrigger, the quality of the treatment surpassed it. After a 25min scrub, 25min back massage, 20min mini facial and 20min hair & scalp massage I was walking on clouds. Cost FJD 189 (approx AUD 114).

And many a cold beverage was enjoyed on this deck as the skies turned golden. Bliss!

The 6th bonus reason is the location. This was our 4th trip to Fiji, but our previous 3 holidays were at Outrigger on the Lagoon on the Coral Coast. While we loved it there, we were keen for a change and to be in a convenient location to go on a day cruise. In comparison with the Outrigger the Radisson was a little more expensive but had better quality rooms. The grounds and pools were slightly better, and the food and kids facilities were of a very similar quality.
