Yesterday I took my online tribe offline and met up with some very lovely ladies at a Mum Society brunch at The Grounds of Alexandria.
Nikki Parkinson from Styling You was talking life balance and spruiking her very fabulous book, Unlock Your Style. But the bit that really had me nodding along was about tribes. Nikki has her tribes – online peeps, small biz buddies and school parents – and they are filled with special people that really get her. There doesn’t need to be millions of people in your tribes – Nikki has 4 school mum kindred spirits – but they need to be people that lift you up. Love that.

At the brunch I met Vicki from Style on V, Leanne from Getaway Guru, Lisa Marie from The Retro Mumma, Victoria from Boiled Eggs & Soldiers and of course the ever-glamorous Nikki. Leanne & I met at a small biz networking group years ago, Vicki does #everydaystyle like I do (a tribe within a tribe!), and Lisa Marie and Victoria are Clever Cookies like me. After seeing people online for so long, it is super lovely to meet them in person, because, although it feels a bit like a blind date going in, once you’re there you feel like you know each other already.

Do you have Nikki’s book?
As a massive fangirl, I preordered it and have it signed by the queen bee herself. Unexpectedly it is the beauty section that gets the biggest workout at my place. I tend to get lazy and not wear makeup a lot of the time, but I’m trying to do better and through her book Nikki holds my hand and takes me step by step in putting my makeup on, as well as some truly excellent product recommendations. I don’t forget anything and it goes on in the right order. Seems simple, but who has time to waste in the morning realising that they forgot concealer after the powder’s already on? Not me. I especially love that she has the 2 minute routine as well as the 7 minute version. I can’t do either of them that quickly, but I keep practising!

Have you ever met one of your heroes? And why is it impossible to put a sentence of sensible words together in front of them?
