Take the kids to Sculpture by the Sea

November 6, 2014 by Kirralee Leave a Comment

This weekend is the perfect time to take the kids to Sculpture by the Sea, the free annual outdoor sculpture exhibition along the cliff top walk between Bondi Beach and Tamarama Beach in Sydney. The weather looks like it will be lovely and the exhibition ends next week.

Take the kids to Sculpture by the sea

It was our first time with kids this year and it made for a fabulous day out. I wouldn’t recommend getting there in the middle of the day like we did though. Especially since the kids’ legs had already had a workout on a run with me that morning. Poor planning!

Although it was a late decision to go and the roads were clogged once you passed Bondi Junction, we managed to park near the Waverley Bowlo and walk down to Tamarama Beach.

We didn’t push our luck with the kids though and only did a small section of the walk, but we still saw about 45 out of the total 109 exhibits. Plenty!! The section we did from Tamarama Beach to Mark’s Park (about halfway to Bondi) was really kid-friendly. Especially the fantastic sculptures on the beach, like the giant frying pan and the solar-powered counter doorway, which counts each person who walks through it.

Tip – Buy the Kids’ Guide. The $6 cost helps to ensure this fabulous free event continues as well as engaging the kids. Miss 7 loved using it to look up each sculpture and read out the description.

Does the thought of letting your kids loose near a cliff edge fill you with horror?

Or are you old hands at the Bondi to Bronte coastal walk?
