Why travel to Bali with kids?

Let me introduce you to Sally-Ann. This lovely Perth-based lady shares her family travel tips and tricks over at Toddlers on Tour. We have travelled to Bali with our child twice; once when our son was 2 and a half, then again more recently for a short getaway when he was 6.  We are now planning to return in a couple of months for our annual 2 week family holiday.

So what have we discovered about Bali that is so good families keep going back for more?

Location

This has to be the number one reason, a trip abroad in 3 ½ hours from Perth.  With our popular local getaway location Margaret River a 3 hour drive why not add on half an hour and be in an entirely different country.

To add to the close proximity is the wide choice of airlines flying in and out of Bali at all times of the day and night.  There is bound to be an airline, price and time to meet your needs.

Choice of Accommodation

Once you arrive into Bali you are spoilt for choice with a plethora of accommodation options.  Resorts and hotels ranging from 3-5 star with amenities including: water parks and slides, kids clubs, child minding and family rooms.

Or you can easily hire a self-contained villa giving you separate bedrooms plus a fully functioning kitchen, perfect for fussy eaters and the bottomless pit of teenagers.  Just be careful of the unfenced plunge pool if you are travelling with babies and toddlers.

Eating Out

Just as there is a huge choice of accommodation there is an even great choice for eating out and for me one of the great things about travel is eating.

There are plenty of little local establishments dotted everywhere.  To avoid that little niggling worry of Bali belly I like to stick to freshly grilled foods like satay sticks and steer clear of the stews that could have been made days ago.

However these days there are also loads of high end restaurants in all the major tourist regions.  You can get a top class dish for local Australian café prices.  That’s one way to get a taste of those high end restaurant dishes at half the price.

Things to Do

Another high end item in demand for at half the price is clothing.  Bali has all the top designer stores, which have discount racks with Kmart price tags.  Or get some locally made goods from one of the weekend markets.

However as you’re on a family holiday, the kids and possibly hubby are going to get tired of shopping pretty quickly.  So keep the whole family entertained with fun day trips.

• Take in a Safari at Bali Safari and Marine Park 
• Check out the range of birdlife at Bali Bird and Reptile Park 
• Discover some Balinese culture at Tanah Lot 
• Or watch a stage show like the Devdan Show 

There is plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

With such a diverse range of airlines, accommodation, restaurant and activities there is a budget alternative for everyone.
