Sydney to Berry drive | A stylish and delicious day trip

Nestled in the rolling green hills of the Southern Highlands, Berry is a stylish little haven, filled with amazing food and gorgeous homewares. At 2 hours south of Sydney CBD, the Sydney to Berry drive makes for a lovely family day out.

We do this drive regularly and find plenty of things to do in Berry with kids and along the way there. Visit this quaint country village and you will have a fabulously relaxing day eating and exploring.

Things to do in Berry NSW

Milkwood Bakery

This is a hugely popular bakery with a lovely outdoor seating area.

The pies and sausage rolls are of the gourmet variety. My Beef Bourguignon with Mushroom pie was the best I’ve had for a long time. Imagine a rich French-style beef casserole, slow cooked, then encased in divinely flaky pastry. So very very good.

Il Locale Gelato

The Pines dairy farm near Kiama makes ice cream from the milk its cows produce, and what magnificent ice cream it is! The flavours are unique and delicious!

Mine was Milk Chocolate and Mandarin. Yummy! It tasted like jaffas! An essential stop.

The Famous Berry Donut Van

This place is ridiculously popular, but the fresh hot cinnamon donuts are mouth-wateringly yummy.

Sydney to Berry drive

Grand Pacific Drive

Grand Pacific Drive is the scenic, coastal route from Sydney south to Nowra. It is a relatively recent addition and the jewel in the crown is the Sea Cliff Bridge. The dramatic way this road juts out away from the land makes it well worth the detour.

It is the marker just near Bald Hill Headland Reserve on the map above.

Kiama

Kiama is a larger town than Berry, with the fabulous Kiama Seaside Market (arts and crafts) around its harbour on the 3rd Sunday of every month. The kids will love watching the Kiama Blowhole too.

Definitely worth a stop if you have time, but actually worth a whole day trip to itself and is also a lovely spot for a weekend away.

South coast beaches

The beaches down here are spectacular. Miles and miles of beautiful white sand and clear blue water. Seven Mile Beach is particularly popular. Or if you’re up for a longer drive, the whole area around Jervis Bay is breath-taking.

Bald Hill Headland Reserve

We stopped off on the way home from Berry to watch paragliders and hang gliders run off a cliff and float down along this stunning coastline.

I had my heart in my mouth watching them jump. I could definitely not imagine ever doing it, which is ridiculous since I actually did paraglide in Queenstown. They must put adrenaline in the water over there!
